The Winemaker
Barbara grew up with wine. Her father, Fritz Gruber, is one of the world’s most renowned builders of high-end wine cellars, with projects on every continent. Wine became part of her world early on. She gained hands-on experience in California at Blankiet Estate and deepened her understanding of the international wine world through the WSET Diploma. Instead of returning to consulting after her MBA, she and Jörg chose to lay the foundation for Lacules.
The Vintner
Jörg, a PhD chemist, eventually had enough of life in the research departments of large corporations. Together with Barbara, he decided to pursue a vision of their own — and exchanged the pharmaceutical lab for barriques. Research remained his passion. Today, it takes place in wine: in processes, observation, precision and the constant effort to understand every detail more deeply. Together with Barbara, this became a standard that still shapes Lacules today: to read each vintage carefully, make precise decisions and bring out its best expression.
The Vineyard Manager
Christos is our Vineyard Manager and our trusted man on the ground. He knows the vineyards, olive groves and land around Koroni in detail. A trained microbiologist, he came to wine through his passion for agriculture. In Christos, we have found not only a partner who carries our vision on site, but someone who, over time, has become part of the family.
Lacules is a family project
Barbara and Jörg personally oversee the estate. But Lacules also depends on a trusted network in the region: craftsmen, restaurateurs, farmers, local entrepreneurs and long-time companions — many of whom have become friends
For Barbara and Jörg, Lacules is not simply a project producing in Greece. It is a place rooted in the local community — shaped by people whose work, care and reliability help carry it forward, and who should share in its development.
